Why did you feel you had to tell this story?
I wanted to illustrate an untold story of the Greatest Generation’s return from WWII and how the struggles of combat veterans of that war have not been recognized.
How has PTSD influenced your life?
PTSD impacted my family of origin because the unacknowledged PTSD of my World War II paratrooper father led to family turmoil and trauma.
What did you learn from writing your book?
I learned a lot about World War II, such as the replacement policy and point system for soldiers during the war, and about some surprising and somewhat shocking VA treatments for psychiatric casualties after that war.
How has your environment/upbringing colored your writing?
I attempted to understand why my upbringing did not fit into the typical Greatest Generation stereotype of long marriages and well adjusted families.
